Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Acknowledge Everyone

--by Aurelia, posted Oct 18, 2010

I recently started working as a cashier in a busy department store. I find I get caught up in the  craziness of wanting to get done with a customer as quickly as possible and on to the next to keep the waiting lines to a minimum.

Yesterday a customer came to my checkout and I noticed she had a severly handicapped older child in a 'hi-tech' wheelchair. I could have easily checked out the mom and went on the next customer and never said a word to her child, but one look into the child's eyes and I knew I had to take the time and acknowledge him. I spoke directly to him and thanked him for shopping at our store with his mom and told him how handsome he looked. Then sure enough...a huge, drooly smile came over his face... :0)  It only took a moment of my time and I am so happy that I did speak to him :0)  Make time when  your heart is speaking to you.
