$100 Project – Day 1
--Posted by anonymous on Jul 20, 2008

Hello everyone!

Saturday morning my daughter and I stuffed the envelopes for our $100 giveaway, as I mentioned in my last post. We had a great time putting the note, card and dollar in each envelope. I explained to her what I was going to do. She insisted on helping. Once we were done, the kids and I left for our first stop to deliver our kindness gifts!

My daughter really wanted to give some out. We decided to start at the back of the grocery store and work our way forward. Rachel is only 4 ½ but we was very excited. We practiced our greeting before we went in. “I hope this makes you smile” was the plan. She wanted me to go first so I did! The first person smiled and politely said thank you. She looked a little startled by us. I thought I wasn’t too intimidating with my two little ones close behind. The next person said nothing. We delivered about 10 of the 100 we had. People were very reluctant and I was concerned this experience would not be as pleasant as I wanted for my daughter. But we would not allow this to fail!

Next stop was the mall. This time we changed tactics. Instead of scaring people by approaching them, we decided to leave our envelopes on tables or chairs so nobody would feel uncomfortable. As we did this, my daughter would sneak up to a chair, drop our envelope and run off laughing. I would sit down for a second, set an envelope next to me, and quickly move on. It was great and we had a lot of fun! After going through the mall, we went back to some of the areas we had hit. The best one was we got to watch a man sit at the table and open one of our envelopes. He read the note, took the smile cards, and put a dollar in it too, just like we asked! Little Rachel was so excited and I was glad to witness it from afar as well!

When we got home, she was so excited to tell her Mom how our adventure went. We were not able to give out all of the envelopes in one shot because we were trying hard not to be seen making the drops. Rachel insists that she wants to do it again. We have started something special here! We are mapping out our route for our next “adventure”. I’ll keep you all updated and we’ll see how it goes!

What a wonderful way to lead by example and teach our children the true essence of being kind! Rachel's
enthusiasm is a natural extension of her personal experience ... that it feels good to give!

There no relationship like the one you are building with your daughter. She looks up to you! Who better to teach her to be caring, loving and giving than you MSS. I'm so glad you had this special day with her making others happy and encourgaing them to share. There's nothing sweeter than a daddy and his “little girl.” I look forward to hearing more from you soon. Kudos on a job well done! :0) ~Aurelia
